In a shocking incident on Ophir Road near Sim Lim Square, a fallen tree crushed a pickup truck, resulting in three individuals being rushed to the hospital. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, Sept 21, and the condition of the injured remains uncertain.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the distress call around 6.35pm near Rochor Canal Road. A spokesperson for the SCDF detailed the rescue operation, stating, “With the assistance from a nearby lorry crane, the tree was lifted from the pickup truck while SCDF used hydraulic rescue equipment to rescue a person trapped in the driver seat of the pickup truck.”

The driver, once extricated, was immediately taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Two other passengers, who were in the front cabin of the truck, were transported to Raffles Hospital. Fortunately, before the SCDF’s arrival, two individuals from the front cabin and another from the rear deck had managed to escape the crushed vehicle.

Eyewitness accounts and videos shared on TikTok show a large crowd gathering around the accident site. The visuals depict a grey pickup truck with a severely damaged roof, and a white car also appears to be trapped under the fallen tree’s branches.

The aftermath of the incident led to significant traffic congestion along Ophir Road, as reported by several social media users.

This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of accidents and underscores the importance of regular maintenance and checks on urban trees to ensure public safety.
