Fire Erupts in Hougang Flat, Prompting Evacuation of 50 Residents

A fire broke out in a second-storey Housing Board flat in Hougang on Friday afternoon, leading to the evacuation of approximately 50 residents.

Swift Response to the Blaze

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received an alert about the fire at Block 376B Hougang Street 32 around 1.15pm. Responding promptly, firefighters managed to douse the flames using a water jet and a hose reel.

Witness Accounts and Immediate Aftermath

A video that surfaced on Facebook on Saturday captured the intensity of the fire. It showed flames engulfing a window on the second storey, producing thick smoke. Several passers-by could be seen observing the scene from a safe distance across the road.

The combined efforts of the police and SCDF ensured the safe evacuation of about 50 residents from the affected block. While one individual was assessed for smoke inhalation, they opted not to be taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the authorities.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the need for residents to be vigilant and prepared for such emergencies.
