Witnesses at the scene described a scene of terror, with hundreds of shoppers, including children, desperately trying to flee the mall after the shots rang out. Videos circulating on social media captured the alleged shooter, dressed in a baseball cap, dark shirt, and camouflage pants, brandishing a handgun inside the mall.
Shir Yahav, a 26-year-old visitor from Israel, recounted the terrifying moments to Reuters, “We saw all the people run… we didn’t understand what was happening. We went with them, and then we heard several shots.”
Immediate Reactions
Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed his concerns on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “I am aware of the shooting event at Siam Paragon… I am most worried about public safety.”
Among the deceased was a Chinese tourist, as reported by Viral Press. Susinee, a 35-year-old restaurant worker, shared her experience with Reuters, explaining how she and her colleagues fled their Japanese ramen outlet upon hearing the gunshots.
Witnesses outside the mall were in shock, with some even doubting the authenticity of the incident. Gautam Vora, a 45-year-old witness, told The Associated Press about the confusion and panic among the mall staff, saying, “I don’t think they were well prepared for this.”
