Two 14-year-old boys have been highlighted among the 134 suspected drug offenders who were recently apprehended during a massive islandwide anti-drug operation. Spanning almost two weeks, from October 8 to October 20, the operation led to the seizure of drugs worth more than $600,000.

Areas Covered and Drugs Seized

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) detailed the scope of their operation, which encompassed regions such as Bedok, Clementi, Hougang, River Valley, and Tiong Bahru. A considerable amount of various drugs were captured, including 1,296g of heroin, 373g of Ice, 9,605g of cannabis, and smaller amounts of ketamine, new psychoactive substances (NPS), Ecstasy and Erimin-5 tablets, LSD stamps, and bottles of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate).

Arrests Detailed

Diving deeper into the arrests, a standout case involves a 14-year-old boy who was taken into custody during the afternoon for suspected drug-related activities in a residential location around Yishun Street 51. The authorities discovered approximately 1g of Ice and various drug-related equipment on the premises. After the CNB took over the investigation, they arrested another 14-year-old along with his 22-year-old sibling during the evening in Canberra, finding an additional 17g of Ice. Notably, these two young teens are the youngest suspects taken into custody during this crackdown.

Moreover, in a significant bust on October 17, a 35-year-old Singaporean male and a 56-year-old Singaporean female were arrested during a raid on a commercial property in Serangoon North. The CNB relayed that they confiscated around 979g of heroin, 250g of cannabis, and 19g of Ice. Following up, officers accompanied the duo to a residential spot close to Woodlands Drive 62, where they seized an additional 25g of heroin.

Investigations Continue

The CNB stated that investigations regarding all the suspects arrested in this operation are still in progress. It’s imperative to note that in Singapore, individuals convicted of trafficking significant amounts of specific drugs, like over 15g of pure heroin or over 500g of cannabis, could be subjected to the mandatory death penalty.
