Singapore’s own swimming sensation, Toh Wei Soong, secured a coveted silver medal at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou on Tuesday, October 24th. This achievement marked the country’s first medal at these esteemed games.
Splashing to Silver
Toh’s commendable performance in the men’s 400m freestyle S7 final saw him touching the wall with a time of 5:12.15, securing the silver medal position. The Philippines’ Ernie Gawilan captured gold, while the bronze went to Huang Xianquan from China.
This is not the first time Toh has brought glory to Singapore on the Asian stage. Reflecting on his past achievements, Toh clinched a trio of medals in the 2018 Jakarta Asiad edition, bagging two golds and a bronze. Furthermore, the 2023 ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia witnessed Toh smashing Games records in both the 50m and 100m S7 freestyle events, leading him to a stunning haul of five medals: three golds and two silvers.
Singapore Continues to Shine
Following closely on Toh’s heels, Singapore continued to make waves in Hangzhou. The nation’s second medal was delivered in the arena of table tennis. Claire Toh Shumin achieved a joint bronze medal after a tough battle against China’s Liu Jing in the women’s singles semi-final. The bronze honor was shared with Thailand’s Chilchitparyak Bootwansirina, who faced defeat against Seo Su-yeon from South Korea.
