Residents of Tengah, a burgeoning new town in Singapore, have had their concerns over connectivity addressed with the announcement of a new bus service and extensions to existing routes. In response to grievances voiced by the community, authorities have taken measures to improve transportation options for the residents.

New Service and Extended Routes

Starting November 26, the newly introduced bus service 870 will begin operations, providing a much-needed link for residents at the bus stop near Block 111 of Plantation Crescent. The service will facilitate access to Jurong East amenities and the market at Bukit Batok Block 156, significantly enhancing mobility for Tengah dwellers. Senior Minister of State for Transport, Amy Khor, also the MP for Hongkah North SMC, shared this development on Facebook, outlining the benefits it will bring to her constituents.

In a further boost to local transportation, December will see bus service 870 and the existing 992, which currently travels to Bukit Batok, extended to incorporate two additional stops. These stops are strategically placed opposite Plantation Village and outside Plantation Grange, broadening the reach of public transport within various precincts of Tengah.

Anticipating Future Growth

Tengah’s transport infrastructure is set to expand in alignment with the town’s development. The future Tengah Plantation MRT station, situated along Plantation Crescent, is scheduled for completion by 2028. Meanwhile, the Tengah MRT station, poised at the heart of the upcoming town center, is expected to be operational by 2027. These stations form part of the larger Jurong Region Line (JRL), which will roll out in phases from 2027 to 2029, promising a transformative impact on the region’s connectivity.

Conclusion: A Commitment to Connectivity

The introduction of the new bus service and the extension of existing routes are clear indicators of the authorities’ commitment to addressing the transportation needs of Tengah residents. As the town continues to grow, these improvements in connectivity are crucial steps towards ensuring that the community remains well-served and integrated with the broader Singaporean transport network.
