A 40-year-old man in Boon Lay Drive has been compelled to sleep in the corridor of his HDB flat due to severe hoarding within his family home. The clutter inside the flat, caused by a family member’s hoarding disorder, has become so extensive that the man had to create a makeshift shelter in the corridor, using a tarpaulin canvas suspended from the ceiling.
Response from West Coast Town Council
The West Coast Town Council is aware of the situation and is collaborating with various agencies to assist the family. The council plans to conduct further visits and checks to improve the situation.
Man’s Living Arrangement and Plans
The man, who has been living in the two-room rental flat with his elderly mother and teenage nephew for the past four years, explained that his mother’s hoarding led to a lack of space inside the unit, forcing him to sleep outside. He is currently seeking to move out soon and has mentioned that his neighbors have been sympathetic and understanding of his makeshift living arrangement.
