Singapore has implemented the Electric Vehicles Charging Act 2022 (EVCA), regulating the safe charging of EVs, ensuring reliable EV charging services, and expanding the network of accessible charging infrastructure.
For EV Charger Suppliers/Owners/Operators:
All EV chargers must be type-approved by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). EV chargers must be registered before use, with a transition period lasting until June 7, 2024, for existing chargers.
Licensing Requirements:
EV Charging Operators (EVCOs) providing public charging services are required to have a license. Licensees will be subject to conditions like maintaining charger service uptime and purchasing public liability insurance.
For Building Developers/Owners:
New developments and electrical works involving significant load increases must provide EV charging infrastructure. Developers must supply a minimum power capacity per parking lot and install a certain percentage of charging points.
Penalties for Non-Compliance:
Non-compliance with the EVCA could lead to substantial fines and, in some cases, imprisonment.
