A serious accident at Boon Lay Bus Interchange in Singapore has left four women injured and led to the arrest of a bus driver. The incident, which involved a collision between two buses from different public transport operators, occurred on the evening of December 29, causing significant disruption and concern.

The accident involved Bus 199, operated by SBS Transit, and Bus 178, managed by SMRT. Bus 199 was stationary at its boarding berth when it was struck by Bus 178, resulting in a shattered windshield and substantial delays. While Bus 199 had no passengers at the time, Bus 178 was carrying around 20 passengers, including elderly and children.

Emergency Response and Injuries

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) promptly responded to the scene. Four passengers, women aged between 40 and 77, were taken to the hospital. All were conscious at the time of transport. In light of the incident, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) arrested a 56-year-old male bus captain for a negligent act causing harm.

Transit Operators’ Actions

SBS Transit and SMRT have both responded to the incident. SBS Transit confirmed that their bus was stationary when hit, and no passengers were on board. SMRT apologized for the event involving their bus and is actively assisting the injured passengers, as well as cooperating with police investigations.
