Fire in Telok Blangah Flat Leads to Hospitalization of Two and Evacuation of Sixty

In a recent incident, a fire erupted in a flat at Telok Blangah, resulting in the hospitalization of two individuals and the evacuation of approximately 60 residents. The fire, which originated in the kitchen of an eighth-floor unit at Block 44 Telok Blangah Drive, was promptly addressed by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police.

Blaze in the Kitchen

The SCDF received an alert regarding the fire at about 3.40 pm on January 13th. The fire, confined to the kitchen of the unit, was swiftly extinguished by firefighters using a water jet, taking about five minutes to bring under control. The quick response by the SCDF ensured that the fire did not spread to other parts of the building.

Evacuation and Rescue Efforts

The SCDF, assisted by the police, conducted an evacuation of the building, affecting around 60 residents, including elderly individuals who required assistance with wheelchairs. The residents were temporarily relocated to the void deck for safety.

Casualties and Response

Prior to the arrival of the SCDF, seven individuals from the affected unit had already evacuated the premises. Out of these, one resident and a neighbor were assessed at the scene for smoke inhalation symptoms. Both were conscious when they were transported to Singapore General Hospital for further medical attention.

The incident highlights the importance of fire safety in residential areas and the swift response of emergency services in Singapore. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and further details will be provided as they become available.
