Singapore’s approach to community policing is set to undergo significant changes as six neighbourhood police posts (NPPs) are slated for permanent closure from February 26. The decision, aimed at optimizing the distribution and efficiency of police resources, comes in light of the close proximity of these NPPs to other existing policing facilities.
Affected Neighbourhoods and Alternatives for Residents
The affected posts include River Valley NPP, Bukit Panjang North NPP, Tiong Bahru NPP, MacPherson NPP, Mountbatten NPP, and Hong Kah South NPP. Residents who previously relied on these posts for non-emergency police services are advised to seek assistance from the nearest alternative NPPs or neighbourhood police centres (NPCs). For non-urgent matters, the public is encouraged to utilize the electronic Police Centre’s online services.
Emphasizing Accessibility and Urgent Assistance
The Singapore Police Force reassures the public that immediate police assistance for emergencies remains accessible through the 999 hotline, emphasizing their commitment to public safety and responsiveness.
Expanding Community Policing Network
Looking ahead, the police force has announced plans to further enhance community policing infrastructure by constructing eight new NPPs by 2025. This expansion aims to ensure a more comprehensive and accessible network of police service touchpoints across the island, reflecting the police’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and public safety.
