In a distressing incident on February 21, a 33-year-old woman from Singapore lost her life following a high-speed collision while driving a go-kart in Batam, Indonesia. The unfortunate event unfolded at the Golden City Go-Kart track, located in the Golden Prawn area of Bengkong, Batam.

The Fateful Ride

Eyewitness accounts, as reported by IBN Times Sumut, indicate that the victim was engaging in the recreational activity around 3 pm when the tragedy struck. According to Riau Police Commissioner Zahwani Bandra Surat, the woman had completed two laps around the track in go-kart number 14 at a notably high velocity before losing control and colliding with the circuit’s barriers. The force of the crash was such that it dislodged her helmet.

A Preventable Mishap

A staff member who rushed to assist the victim noticed a distressing sight; strands of the woman’s hair were entwined around the go-kart, some forcefully detached due to the impact. It was later revealed that the woman had not adhered to the safety recommendation to wear a hair net or any protective covering for her hair, which could have potentially mitigated the severity of her injuries.

Repatriation and Mourning

The victim’s body is set to be repatriated to Singapore, where her loved ones will conduct the burial rites. This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the paramount importance of adhering to safety protocols while engaging in high-speed recreational activities.
