In a significant crackdown, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) of Singapore apprehended 119 individuals during an extensive islandwide operation, seizing drugs worth approximately $343,000. Among the substances confiscated were 1.9kg of heroin, 390g of methamphetamine, 453g of cannabis, and smaller quantities of ketamine, new psychoactive substances, ecstasy tablets, Erimin-5 tablets, LSD stamps, and cocaine.
Wide-Ranging Operation
The operation spanned multiple neighborhoods including Clementi, Geylang, Punggol, Sembawang, Tampines, and Woodlands. The raids took place over a ten-day period from February 19 to February 29, uncovering a significant quantity of illicit drugs intended for distribution across the island.
Dangerous Encounter
A particularly alarming incident occurred on February 19 when a 19-year-old male, suspected of drug addiction, attempted to assault a female CNB officer with a knife in a bid to escape capture. The incident took place in a residential flat in Clementi Avenue 4, where the suspect, along with a 21-year-old accomplice, was targeted for arrest. Quick action by the officers neutralized the threat, leading to the arrest of both individuals without any injuries. The 19-year-old is currently facing charges for criminal intimidation and drug-related offences.
This extensive operation underscores the relentless efforts of Singapore’s CNB in combating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety amidst rising challenges.
