Hobart has experienced its warmest night in 112 years, as a significant heatwave grips parts of south-eastern Australia. The extraordinary temperatures have extended across South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, and southern regions of New South Wales, prompting the Bureau of Meteorology to issue continued extreme heat warnings for the coming days.

The unprecedented weather conditions led to the cancellation of several events planned for the long weekend. Record-breaking temperatures were noted in various locations, including Edithburgh in South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, which hit 41.7°C, and Kanagulk in western Victoria, reaching 40.6°C, marking the hottest March day ever recorded in these areas. The overnight low temperature in Hobart was 24.3°C – the warmest night in the Tasmanian capital since 1912.
