In a somber development from the Swiss Alps, the discovery of five skiers’ bodies has been confirmed by the police, with a search still underway for a sixth individual.
Following their disappearance, an extensive search and rescue mission was initiated on Saturday in the vicinity of the Tete Blanche peak, standing at 3,706 meters. The skiers had embarked on a journey from Zermatt, known for the iconic Matterhorn, heading towards Arolla near the Swiss-Italian boundary.
Authorities reported finding five out of the six skiers at 21:20 local time, unfortunately with no signs of life, according to a press release by the Swiss Valais canton police.
The region has been grappling with severe weather conditions, including strong winds and significant snowfall over the last day, contributing to the challenging search efforts. The nearby winter resort of Saas-Fee, adjacent to Zermatt, has been rendered inaccessible due to the heavy snow.
