Singaporean Foreign Minister Embarks on Diplomatic Mission to the Middle East

Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, is set to undertake a significant diplomatic journey through the Middle East from March 18 to 24. His itinerary includes pivotal stops in the Palestinian territories, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, marking a comprehensive engagement with key regional players.

Parliamentary Delegation in Tow

Accompanying Minister Balakrishnan is a diverse delegation of Singaporean Members of Parliament, comprising Alex Yam, Nadia Ahmad Samdin, Rachel Ong, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, and Workers’ Party representative Gerald Giam. Their participation underscores the trip’s importance in fostering bilateral ties and understanding regional complexities.

Humanitarian Gesture in Jordan

Prior to the official visit, the delegation made a significant stop in Amman, Jordan, where they partook in a humanitarian ceremony. Here, Singapore demonstrated its commitment to international aid by donating S$6.1 million, collected through public contributions, to support relief efforts in Gaza. The funds were handed over to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), symbolizing Singapore’s solidarity with those affected in the region.
