In a bizarre turn of events, a man in Brisbane, Australia, found himself trapped within the city’s drain network for an extensive 36-hour period. The ordeal began on a seemingly ordinary Saturday when the man, in his 30s, ventured into the drains in an attempt to recover his mobile phone.

Dramatic Rescue Operation

The confined individual’s plight came to an end on Monday, following an emergency call alerting rescuers to his precarious situation. The swift response by emergency services culminated in his extraction from the subterranean confines. Firefighters facilitated his escape by removing a drain cover, enabling him to emerge from his unintended hiding spot. Remarkably, the entire rescue operation unfolded in a mere five minutes.

Community Member’s Vigilance Leads to Rescue

The man’s presence in the drain was first noted by local resident James Lingwood, who encountered him on Sunday. Initially, the trapped man assured Lingwood of his ability to exit the drains independently. However, Lingwood’s concerns were reignited the following day upon hearing distressed sounds from the drain, prompting him to contact authorities.

Medical Attention for the Rescued

Following his release from the drains, the man was immediately transported to a hospital for medical attention. He is currently being treated for abrasions and symptoms of hypothermia, consequences of his prolonged exposure to the cold and damp conditions underground.

The fate of the mobile phone that led to this extraordinary series of events remains unknown, leaving an air of mystery around an already extraordinary story.
