The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) has confirmed that all attendees of the Sentosa Sky Lantern Festival, who expressed their grievances, are entitled to a full refund. A total of 68 complaints were officially lodged with CASE concerning the event that took place on February 21 at Palawan Green, Sentosa.
Complaint Window
Event organizer, Asian Couture and Boutique, has committed to refunding all affected consumers who file a complaint with CASE by the deadline of March 31, 11:59 PM. This decision comes in response to the significant disparity between the advertised experience and the actual event.
Event Disappointment
The festival was promoted with the promise of an enchanting evening filled with floating lanterns lit by candles. However, attendees were met with disappointment when it was announced that due to “unforeseen circumstances,” the traditional candles would be replaced with LED lights. Moreover, the lanterns were not freely floating but instead were tethered to barricades, falling short of the magical sky lantern experience that had been advertised.
Safety Concerns
The aftermath of the event also brought to light that the necessary safety permits had not been secured by the organizer, as clarified by the Singapore Civil Defence Force the following day. The oversight regarding safety requirements further compounded the attendees’ frustration.
Refund Process
Those who attended the festival and were let down by the experience are urged to reach out to CASE by the specified deadline to claim their refunds. Ticket prices were set at S$50 per individual, not including booking fees, making the refunds a significant gesture towards rectifying the situation for disappointed festival-goers.
