The city of Orenburg, along with its surrounding areas, is grappling with severe flooding, labeled as the most catastrophic in nearly eight decades. The Kremlin has expressed concerns, emphasizing the escalating tension as water levels continue to rise alarmingly.

Rivers Overflow

Recent phenomena, including rapid snowmelt, have led to several rivers, notably the Ural, Europe’s third-largest river, overflowing their banks. This has resulted in widespread displacement, with thousands in Russia and nearly 97,000 in Kazakhstan forced to evacuate their homes.

Critical Water Levels

In Orenburg, the Ural river’s water level surged past 10 meters, crossing the critical threshold and instigating extensive flooding. The inundation has impacted over 2,000 residences in the city, which boasts a population of half a million.

Regional Impact

The flooding has also affected Orsk, situated downstream from Orenburg, where water breached a dam. However, authorities have since reported stabilization in the area, alleviating some concerns amidst this widespread natural disaster.
