A 24-year-old man has been arrested following an attempted robbery at a supermarket on Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7, Singapore. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involved the suspect allegedly using a metal rod as a weapon to threaten a cashier.
Attempted Robbery
According to the police, the suspect entered the supermarket and placed the metal rod against the cashier’s neck while demanding money. Despite the threatening situation, the cashier did not comply with the demand, and the suspect subsequently fled the scene without any money. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident.
Swift Police Response
Officers from the Jurong Police Division responded promptly to the incident. Utilizing ground enquiries and footage from police cameras, they were able to identify and arrest the suspect within two hours of the attempted robbery. A metal rod was also seized from him as evidence.
Legal Consequences
The arrested man is set to be charged in court on Monday for attempted robbery. Under Singapore’s strict laws, if convicted, he faces a jail term of between two to seven years and is also liable for a minimum of six strokes of the cane.
