President Emmanuel Macron has revealed that France is prepared to relocate the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony from its planned river setting along the Seine if a serious terrorist threat arises. In a recent television interview, Macron highlighted the innovative nature of the planned ceremony set for 26 July, which is expected to attract over 300,000 spectators to witness a unique flotilla showcasing national teams.

Security-Driven Contingencies

Given the ongoing security concerns, Macron emphasized the existence of contingency plans, including shifting the grand event to either the Trocadéro, offering views of the iconic Eiffel Tower, or the traditional venue at the Stade de France. These alternative locations would be activated based on real-time security assessments.

Preventive Measures and Security Enhancements

In the wake of a recent terrorist attack in Moscow (Tragic Assault on Moscow Concert Hall) and with France on high alert, Macron reassured that extensive security measures are in place. A comprehensive security perimeter will be established around the Seine eight days before the event. Additionally, Macron stated that 30,000 police and gendarmes, supplemented by 20,000 private security personnel and military forces, will be deployed daily to ensure the safety of the Games.

The French president stressed the importance of overcoming terrorist threats to maintain the spirit of the Games, saying, “What the terrorists want is to prevent us from dreaming, and that’s their greatest victory.” France remains committed to delivering a safe and spectacular Olympics, keeping the dream alive under the shadow of potential threats.
