A tourist was apprehended this April for shoplifting luxury items, including a high-end belt and various cosmetics, from Changi Airport’s transit area. The 38-year-old woman, caught nearly two months after the initial incident, is now facing charges that could lead to a prison sentence of up to seven years.

Details of the Incident

Singapore Police were notified about the thefts on February 21, following reports of missing merchandise from two shops within the airport’s transit section. The items included a belt valued at over $800 and cosmetics nearing $200 in total. Despite swift identification, the suspect had already boarded an international flight, evading immediate arrest.

Arrest and Charges

Upon her return to Singapore in April, authorities promptly arrested the woman. Further investigation revealed additional theft on the day of her capture, involving over $400 worth of cosmetics. Scheduled for a court appearance on April 16, she faces serious charges under Singapore’s stringent anti-theft laws.
