SMRT Bus Driver Dies in Solo Accident in Woodlands

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 58-year-old bus driver died following a collision on Tuesday morning in Woodlands. The accident involved an SMRT bus service 911 that deviated from its path and crashed into a tree along Woodlands Avenue 2, heading towards the Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub.

Immediate Response

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 9.25am, where they found the driver unconscious. He was the only person on the bus at the time of the accident, confirming that no commuters were on board. The driver was promptly taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragic accident. SMRT buses’ deputy managing director, Vincent Gay, responded to queries about the incident, expressing the company’s sorrow and extending their deepest sympathies to the driver’s family.

The company is cooperating with authorities and has pledged to support the investigation in any way necessary. This incident has raised concerns regarding the safety measures and health protocols in place for public transport operators, prompting a review of current practices to prevent future occurrences.
