Following the recent volcanic eruptions from Mount Ruang in Indonesia, several airlines, including Scoot, have cancelled flights to and from East Malaysia and Indonesia due to safety concerns.
Volcanic Activity
Mount Ruang began its eruptive phase on Tuesday evening, spewing ash over 1.5 kilometers into the atmosphere. The significant ash emission prompted evacuations and led to the closure of Manado city’s international airport on the island of Sulawesi.
Flight Cancellations
Scoot, a budget carrier and subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA), announced the cancellation of six flights scheduled between Singapore and regions in close proximity to the volcanic activity. This includes two flights to Manado, Indonesia, set for Friday, and four flights that were supposed to operate on Thursday to East Malaysia—specifically Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and Miri in Sarawak.
Precautionary Measures
The airline stated that the cancellations are a precautionary response to the ongoing volcanic activity and the potential hazards posed by volcanic ash to aircraft. Scoot has advised passengers to stay informed about the status of their flights and to prepare for possible further disruptions depending on the volcanic activity.
