Singapore police have arrested 13 women and one man during raids targeting vice-related activities in several key areas of central Singapore. The operations, which took place on April 24 and 25, involved locations including hotels and residential units along Bras Basah Road, Havelock Road, Shanghai Road, and Orchard Road.
Seizures and Arrests
During the raid, authorities confiscated close to $40,000 in cash, multiple mobile phones, and various items linked to vice activities, such as condoms. Those arrested are aged between 22 and 59, according to a statement released by the police on April 28.
Charges and Legal Action
A significant aspect of the operation was the arrest of a 59-year-old man believed to be instrumental in running an online vice syndicate. He is expected to be charged in court on April 29. Under the Women’s Charter, individuals found guilty of facilitating or profiting from the prostitution of others face severe penalties, including up to seven years in prison and fines of up to $100,000.
Enforcement and Penalties
The operation reflects ongoing efforts by Singapore authorities to clamp down on illegal vice activities. The law is particularly stringent on the use of remote communication services to offer or facilitate commercial sexual services, with penalties including imprisonment for up to five years and fines up to $100,000.
This latest raid underscores the authorities’ commitment to curbing illegal vice activities in the city-state, ensuring that law and order are maintained in all sectors of the community.
