Since the activation of the speed enforcement function in red-light cameras on April 1, over 800 speeding violations have been recorded in just three weeks, according to the Traffic Police (TP). This sharp increase in detected violations highlights a significant issue with speeding in Singapore.
Increased Enforcement
The TP has been progressively turning on this function across red-light cameras islandwide. The decision to activate the speed enforcement capability comes in response to a concerning rise in speeding-related fatal accidents, which soared to 33 cases in 2023—marking an increase of over 80% from 18 cases in 2022.
Public Awareness
To aid in reducing these violations, the locations of the cameras, which include four different types of speed enforcement tools, are listed on the police website. This transparency aims to discourage speeding and enhance road safety for all users.
