Residents of a condominium along Balmoral Crescent faced an unexpected flooding incident in their car park, which, contrary to initial assumptions, was not caused by the recent heavy rains. The national water agency PUB clarified that the flooding was due to a mechanical failure within the building’s own water management system.
Details of the Incident
On Saturday (May 4), PUB reported that the flooding was caused by a faulty valve in the basement’s sprinkler storage tank, which led to an overflow of water. This malfunction resulted in significant water accumulation in the condominium’s car park area.
No Rainfall Connection
PUB emphasized that the incident was isolated and unrelated to the recent weather conditions. “At the time of the incident, rainfall over the area was not heavy and the nearby drains were not flowing at full capacity,” stated PUB in a Facebook post, dispelling any myths that the flooding was a result of external environmental factors.
Ongoing Investigation and Repairs
Preliminary investigations pointed to the faulty valve as the culprit, and efforts were underway to repair the damage and prevent future occurrences. The agency has assured residents and the public that this was a contained issue, unlikely to affect neighboring areas or properties.
This incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and checks on internal water storage and safety systems in buildings to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
