Indonesian Air Force Chief Visits Singapore to Strengthen Bilateral Military Ties

Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Mohamad Tonny Harjono, the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU), embarked on an introductory visit to Singapore, as announced by the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) on May 15. This visit underscores the ongoing efforts to bolster the defense relationship between Indonesia and Singapore.

Meetings and Discussions

During his visit, ACM Harjono met with prominent Singaporean defense officials including Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen and the Chief of Defence Force, Vice-Admiral Aaron Beng, as well as the Chief of Air Force, Brigadier-General Kelvin Fan. These meetings were fruitful, with discussions focusing on reaffirming the strong and longstanding defense ties between the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the TNI AU. They also explored avenues to enhance cooperation between the two air forces.

Ceremonial Honors and Activities

A significant highlight of ACM Tonny’s visit was the inspection of a guard of honor at Mindef, symbolizing the respect and ceremonial welcome extended by Singapore to visiting military dignitaries. The visit, spanning May 14 to May 15, included several high-level engagements that further solidified the warm military relations between the two nations.

Ongoing Military Cooperation

The RSAF and TNI AU have a history of collaboration through various channels such as the Elang Indopura exercises, high-level visits, professional exchanges, and cross-attendance of professional courses. These interactions have significantly contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds between personnel of both air forces.
