Singapore and US Armies Strengthen Ties in 43rd Exercise Tiger Balm

The 43rd iteration of Exercise Tiger Balm, a longstanding annual military exercise, took place from May 6 to 17 in Washington state, involving approximately 670 servicemen from the Singapore and United States armies. This exercise underscores the deep military cooperation between Singapore and the US, reflecting their commitment to enhancing bilateral defense relations.

Participating Forces and Locations

The exercise was hosted at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord and the Yakima Training Centre, featuring personnel from various units. These included Headquarters 6th Singapore Division/Headquarters Sense & Strike (6 Div/HQ SS), Headquarters 76th Singapore Infantry Brigade, and the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) Peace Carvin V Detachment. From the US side, participants included the Hawaii Army National Guard, the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Introduction of New Capabilities

A notable highlight of this year’s exercise was the inclusion of the RSAF’s F-15SG fighters and the Singapore Army’s Veloce 15 mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, marking their debut in the exercise. The integration of these advanced assets was a significant step forward in strengthening air-land integration across both services, demonstrating the evolving nature of military collaboration and the emphasis on incorporating cutting-edge technology in joint operations.
