A significant fire incident involving an electric bicycle took place on the fifth floor of a Housing Board block in Bedok South. The fire, which occurred on May 25, resulted in the evacuation of approximately 50 residents from their homes as a precautionary measure.

Fire Details and Response

The electric bicycle caught fire in the corridor of the residential building, leading to extensive charring and blackening of the walls. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) quickly responded to the emergency call and managed to extinguish the flames using a water jet. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the residents or firefighters.

Cause of the Fire

Preliminary investigations by the SCDF suggest that the fire likely originated from the battery pack of the electric bicycle, a common issue with battery-operated devices where the batteries overheat and lead to combustion.
