Aer Lingus has announced the cancellation of an additional 122 flights up until July 7 due to ongoing industrial action by pilots. This brings the total number of canceled flights to nearly 400 as a result of the indefinite work-to-rule and strike action.
Nature of the Work-to-Rule Action
The work-to-rule action involves pilots refusing to work overtime or perform any out-of-hours duties. This has significantly disrupted the airline’s operations, leading to the widespread flight cancellations.
Statement from Aer Lingus
Aer Lingus stated that due to the “indefinite nature” of the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association (IALPA) pilots’ industrial action, it “must cancel” additional flights through early July. The ongoing strike action continues to impact the airline’s ability to maintain its schedule.
Failed Negotiations
Efforts to resolve the pay dispute between Aer Lingus and the IALPA have so far been unsuccessful. Talks between the two parties broke down on Thursday without reaching a resolution, prolonging the industrial action and its effects on the airline’s operations.
