A fire broke out onboard two tankers, Hafnia Nile and Ceres I, within Singapore’s maritime search and rescue region, approximately 55km northeast of Pedra Branca. Prompt search and rescue operations ensured that all crew members were accounted for.
Search and Rescue Operations
The Republic of Singapore Navy dispatched its Formidable-class frigate, the RSS Supreme, to the scene. The RSS Supreme successfully picked up 16 crew members from the Hafnia Nile. Additionally, six crew members from the Hafnia Nile, who were in a lifeboat, were rescued by a Malaysian government vessel and later transferred to the RSS Supreme.
Crew Status
A total of 22 crew members from the Hafnia Nile and 40 crew members from the Ceres I have been accounted for. None of the crew members were Singaporean. All 22 crewmen from the Hafnia Nile are currently receiving medical attention onboard the RSS Supreme, which is en route back to Singapore.
Medical Evacuations
Two crew members who required immediate medical attention were airlifted to a hospital. The remaining crew members are safe and accounted for, receiving necessary care and support.
