Singapore and South Korea Aim to Strengthen Relationship with Strategic Partnership in 2025
Singapore and South Korea are set to upgrade their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership by 2025, marking a significant milestone as both nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the move during a joint press conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on October 8, as part of efforts to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
Expanding Cooperation in Startups, Trade, and Food Safety
The two countries are enhancing their collaboration in diverse fields, including startups, food safety, and digital economies. A key part of this effort includes upgrading the existing Korea-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to better suit the demands of today’s digital age, ensuring both economies remain competitive and future-ready.
Air Services Agreement Expansion to Meet Growing Travel Demand
In addition to the FTA, Singapore and South Korea also hope to expand their existing air services agreement, tapping into the rising demand for air travel between the two nations. The upgrade in ties will further solidify the long-standing relationship between Singapore and South Korea, paving the way for deeper economic, cultural, and diplomatic cooperation.
