17-Year-Old Detained for Framing Friend in Bomb Threat Hoax
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested by Mumbai police for allegedly posting bomb threats targeting Indian airlines, in an attempt to frame a friend with whom he had a financial dispute. The teen, from Rajnandgaon in the state of Chhattisgarh, reportedly issued the threats on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), using an account under his friend’s name.
False Threats Disrupt Domestic and International Flights
Earlier this week, several Indian airlines received bomb threats on their social media pages, including for two IndiGo flights bound for Muscat, Oman, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as well as an Air India flight to New York. All the threats were determined to be false alarms. Despite this, the threats caused widespread concern and disruptions within India’s aviation sector.
Investigation and Arrest
Indian authorities quickly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the 17-year-old suspect. The boy’s father and the owner of the X account used for the threats were also summoned for questioning. According to reports, the teen’s actions were motivated by a personal vendetta against his friend.
Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed the arrest on October 16, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident despite the threats being hoaxes. Authorities continue to investigate the situation, with potential legal consequences looming for the young suspect.
