Singapore’s PM to Join World Leaders in Jakarta

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore is set to visit Jakarta, Indonesia, from Sunday, October 20 to Monday, to attend the presidential inauguration of Indonesia’s president-elect, Prabowo Subianto. Prabowo, 73, will officially take over from outgoing president Joko Widodo following a decisive victory in February’s election.

Celebrating Indonesia’s New Leadership

PM Wong will join other international leaders and dignitaries to congratulate Prabowo, who will be sworn in as Indonesia’s eighth president. The inauguration ceremony is expected to host around 1,100 guests, including ASEAN leaders, a US delegation led by Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and China’s Vice President Han Zheng.

Strengthening Bilateral and Regional Ties

Wong’s attendance reflects the strong bilateral relations between Singapore and Indonesia and underscores the importance of regional cooperation in ASEAN. The inauguration marks a significant transition for Indonesia as Prabowo assumes leadership of Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
