Vietnamese authorities have arrested Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, Miss Grand International 2021, on charges of consumer fraud related to the promotion of a counterfeit dietary supplement.

Allegations of Misleading Health Claims

Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, a prominent figure in Vietnam’s beauty and entertainment industry, co-owned and endorsed Kera Supergreens Gummies, marketed as a fibre-rich health supplement. The product was advertised as containing the equivalent fibre of a plate of vegetables per gummy. However, independent laboratory tests revealed that each gummy contained only 16mg of fibre, significantly less than the claimed 200mg.

Further investigations uncovered that the gummies were made with substandard ingredients and contained high levels of sorbitol, a laxative, without proper disclosure. The packaging failed to state the actual fibre content, misleading consumers about the product’s health benefits.

In March 2025, Nguyen and fellow influencers Pham Quang Linh and Hang Du Muc were fined and issued public apologies for their roles in promoting the misleading product. Subsequently, authorities arrested Pham and Hang, along with company officials and the manufacturer, on charges of producing counterfeit goods and defrauding customers.

On May 19, 2025, Nguyen was arrested for allegedly deceiving consumers. Authorities reported that over 135,000 units of the gummies were sold, generating more than $650,000 in revenue before sales were halted.

Background of Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien

Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien gained national fame after winning the Miss Grand International pageant in 2021, becoming the first Vietnamese contestant to secure the title. Her victory led to widespread recognition, including appearances on reality TV shows and endorsements from various brands. She also received certificates of merit from the Vietnamese government for her contributions to national pride.

Ongoing Investigation

The case has sparked public outrage and raised concerns about the regulation of dietary supplements and the responsibilities of influencers in promoting health products. Authorities continue to investigate the extent of the fraud and the involvement of other parties in the production and marketing of the counterfeit gummies.
