The Israel–Iran confrontation has escalated into a direct exchange of military strikes, encompassing airstrikes, missile barrages, and covert operations. With both nations targeting each other’s strategic and civilian infrastructure, global attention is fixed on the intensifying conflict.

Airstrikes Deep Inside Iran

Israel initiated major airstrikes—including drone raids by Mossad—targeting over 100 sites across Iran: Natanz and Fordow nuclear facilities, oil depots, revolutionary guard bases, missile-launch infrastructures, and military command centers. An Israeli military official stated these operations achieved “significant freedom of movement” in Iranian skies, marking a drastic expansion of its reach.

Teheran Under Bombardment

Tehran’s skies have been pounded with successive airstrikes producing severe damage to both underground enrichment halls and above-ground nuclear facilities. The U.N.’s IAEA has confirmed direct hits on Natanz’s underground site. In addition, civilian structures—residential buildings, markets, and oil depots—have been struck, prompting thousands of Tehran residents to flee.

Iran’s Missile and Drone Retaliation

Iran retaliated with sharp missile and drone strikes on Tel Aviv, Haifa, and surrounding regions, firing over. Israeli officials report at least eight civilian deaths and hundreds injured. Several Iranian missiles penetrated Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, while many were intercepted.

Covert Mossad Operations

Simultaneously, Israel executed covert Mossad strikes using explosive drones launched from a clandestine base inside Iran. The operation, executed in tandem with airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force, destroyed missile launchers and command facilities—representing a notable shift in Israel’s hybrid warfare capabilities.

Strategic Targets Hit: Nuclear, Energy, Military

Israel’s strikes targeted Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, including enrichment plants and centrifuges. The country also hit oil facilities, missile bases, and IRGC leadership quarters. Iran responded by targeting IDF installations and civilian zones in Israeli cities.

Human and Economic Toll

Reported fatalities number over 224 Iranians and 24 Israelis, mostly civilians, with hundreds more injured. Oil prices led by Brent rose over 7%, reaching as high as $78, as markets feared potential disruption in Gulf transit routes. Meanwhile, global stock indices remained surprisingly stable.

International Diplomatic Concerns

The U.N. Security Council held emergency discussions amid rising alarm over the conflict. While the U.S. publicly distanced itself, President Trump reportedly vetoed an Israeli proposal to target Iran’s Supreme Leader. Iran has rejected ceasefire mediation, and nuclear talks with Washington remain stalled.

What’s Next: Risks of Wider War

  • Regional escalation: Analysts warn the combined air, missile, and drone strikes risk drawing in other nations or provoking proxy conflicts by non-state actors.
  • Oil and trade disruption: Extended hostilities may threaten shipping lanes, energy pipelines, and global market stability.
  • Ceasefire and diplomacy: International leaders—now including the G7—are urging restraint and revived diplomacy to prevent Irreversible escalation.

The Israel-Iran confrontation marks a dangerous shift from proxy conflicts to open military hostilities. With both nations exchanging heavy blows, the global community is watching closely, hoping that strategic restraint and diplomacy can avoid a wider war.
