Singaporeans can breathe a sigh of relief as the likelihood of haze remains low on Thursday, thanks to the anticipated showers across the region. The National Environment Agency (NEA) has issued its daily haze advisory, assuring residents that the current weather conditions are working in their favor to keep the air quality in check.

Rain Showers to the Rescue

While some parts of southern and central Sumatra may experience drier conditions, Singapore and its neighboring regions are set to benefit from showers, effectively minimizing the risk of transboundary haze. NEA’s meteorological experts expect prevailing winds to primarily blow from the south or southwest, aiding in maintaining clean air.

According to NEA, the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) is forecasted to remain in the moderate range over the next 24 hours, which is reassuring news for residents concerned about air quality.

Rainfall Provides Haze Reprieve

On Wednesday, many parts of Singapore experienced thundery showers in the late morning and early afternoon, as reported by NEA. This rainfall helps to disperse pollutants and clear the air, contributing to improved conditions.

In Sumatra, a similar pattern emerged, with drier conditions observed in some regions, leading to the detection of 66 hotspots, particularly in the southern and central areas. This represents an increase from the 15 hotspots detected on the previous Tuesday.

A Glimmer of Hope

In southern Sumatra, moderate smoke haze was observed from satellite imagery, drifting northwest. However, the prevailing winds and the likelihood of further rain in the area offer a glimmer of hope for maintaining clear skies.

As Singaporeans continue to monitor the haze situation, the showers forecasted for the coming days are expected to play a pivotal role in preserving good air quality. The NEA will continue to provide updates to ensure residents are well-informed about the evolving conditions and can breathe easy knowing that haze risks are under control.
