In a shocking incident in Singapore, a heated argument escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in severe injuries and legal consequences. The case involved Lim Si Hui, a 33-year-old woman, who attacked Mr. Martin Boey with boiling soup following a dispute.

The Incident

The altercation began on the evening of April 19, 2022, at FML Bar in Prinsep Street, Singapore. Lim Si Hui and Mr. Martin Boey got into an argument, reportedly over damage to Lim’s mobile phone. The dispute quickly escalated, leading to Lim slapping Mr. Boey. The situation seemed to have calmed down temporarily as they moved out of the bar to talk.

However, the confrontation reignited later that night. Lim, after discussing the incident with her husband at the bar, decided to confront Mr. Boey again. Despite her husband’s attempts to dissuade her, Lim proceeded to Uranus Restaurant, where Mr. Boey was dining with friends.

The Attack

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Lim approached Mr. Boey’s table and, in a sudden act of aggression, flipped a pot of boiling soup onto him. The soup spilled onto Mr. Boey’s lower torso and limbs, causing him excruciating pain. In a state of shock and agony, Mr. Boey slipped on the soup-covered floor, falling and temporarily losing consciousness. His girlfriend and a friend rushed to his aid, removing his shirt and lowering his pants to treat the burns.

Medical Aftermath

Mr. Boey was rushed to Singapore General Hospital, where he was treated for burns covering 29% of his body, including superficial, partial, and full-thickness burns. He underwent four skin graft surgeries and was later discharged with 15 days of hospitalization leave. The incident left him with likely permanent scarring and post-traumatic stress.

Lim Si Hui pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing grievous hurt by means of a heated substance. The prosecution has sought a jail term of between 5.5 to six years, citing the deliberate and vicious nature of the attack. Lim’s defense, however, argued for a lesser sentence of 2.5 to three years, emphasizing the lack of premeditation. Lim is set to return to court on January 25 for sentencing.
