The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the initiation of significant renovation efforts at the Sengkang LRT station, aimed at streamlining passenger movement within the facility. The project, set to kick off shortly, is expected to reach completion by the end of 2024, bringing about notable improvements in the commuting experience.

Strategic Enhancements

Sengkang LRT station serves as a pivotal interchange, connecting the East and West Loops of the Sengkang LRT line with the NorthEast MRT line. It’s a crucial node in the network, facilitating smooth transitions across 14 stations along four distinct routes of the LRT line. The upcoming enhancements are designed to refine this interchange’s functionality significantly.

Operational Innovations

Upon the upgrade’s completion, the station will introduce a new operational model where trains on each route will halt at two distinct points along the platforms, as opposed to the current single stopping point. This change aims to distribute passenger boarding more evenly and reduce congestion during peak times.

Infrastructure Modifications

To accommodate these operational shifts, the station’s existing safety barriers will undergo modifications. Current barriers, characterized by fixed openings for train door alignment, will be revamped to support the dual stopping points for trains. Complementary upgrades in track-mounted system hardware are also on the agenda to ensure precise train alignments at the redesigned station layout.

Guidance and Signage

In addition to structural changes, the LTA plans to implement new signage and queuing indicators to assist passengers in navigating the updated station layout. These visual aids will play a crucial role in familiarizing commuters with the new boarding procedures and ensuring a smooth transition post-upgrade.

Minimal Disruption

LTA assures that the renovation works will be conducted in phases, targeting specific sections of the station to minimize disruptions to the LRT service. The goal is to maintain regular operating hours throughout the upgrade period, ensuring that commuter inconvenience is kept to a minimum.

As Sengkang LRT station gears up for these comprehensive upgrades, passengers can look forward to a more efficient and comfortable commuting experience in the near future.
