New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is set to make an official visit to Singapore from April 14 to 16, marking the start of his tour across Southeast Asia, according to Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). This trip signifies the first international tour for Mr. Luxon since taking office in November following his party’s electoral victory.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The visit underscores the robust and longstanding relationship between Singapore and New Zealand, strengthened further by the Enhanced Partnership established in 2019. Prime Minister Luxon’s itinerary includes official meetings to discuss key areas of bilateral cooperation.

Engagements and Ceremonies

During his stay, Mr. Luxon will engage with several top officials, including Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who will host an official lunch in his honor. He will also meet Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. A highlight of the visit will be the naming of a new orchid hybrid after him, a tradition for visiting dignitaries in Singapore.

Delegation and Further Plans

Accompanying Prime Minister Luxon are New Zealand’s Minister for Climate Change and Minister for Revenue Simon Watts, among other senior officials. Following the Singapore visit, Mr. Luxon will continue his Southeast Asia tour, with scheduled stops in Thailand and the Philippines, aiming to bolster regional ties and collaboration.
