Announcement of the Celebration Date

Muslims in Singapore are set to celebrate Hari Raya Haji on June 17, as confirmed by Singapore’s Mufti Nazirudin Mohd Nasir. The announcement was made following the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the beginning of Zulhijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, on June 8. This significant day comes after the crescent was observed on the evening of June 7.

Significance of Hari Raya Haji

Hari Raya Haji, also known as Eid Al-Adha, translates to the Festival of Sacrifice. It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Before he could carry out the act, God provided a ram to sacrifice instead. This festival also marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, which is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime
