In a move to enhance public transport infrastructure, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced plans for a new bus depot in Yishun, set to be operational by 2029. The upcoming facility, strategically located in Yishun Avenue 8 within the Simpang region, is part of LTA’s ongoing efforts to rejuvenate and modernize bus infrastructure across the city.
Spanning a 5.6-hectare site adjacent to a heavy vehicle parking area across from Yishun Industrial Park, this state-of-the-art depot is designed to accommodate up to 500 buses. The announcement came following LTA’s tender call on February 2nd for the construction of this multi-storey complex.
The depot is expected to feature a four-storey main building alongside multi-storey quarters dedicated to transport workers and various support structures. Designed with efficiency and sustainability in mind, the main building will host a range of facilities crucial for daily bus operations, including areas for bus repair and maintenance, parking, and even charging stations for electric buses. In a nod to green initiatives, the depot’s roof will be equipped with solar panels.
Slated to commence construction in 2024, the depot aims to bolster bus services in the northern region of Singapore upon its completion in 2029. While LTA confirmed that this new development is intended to replace an existing facility, the specific depot being supplanted has not been disclosed.
