In a decisive move against the vaping epidemic, Singaporean authorities confiscated over $7 million in vaping devices and related components during the first quarter of 2024. This comes as part of a nationwide initiative to curb the distribution and use of vape products.

Arrests and Penalties

From January to March, enforcement agencies apprehended over 2,200 individuals for possession or usage of vaping devices. Notably, this crackdown extended to educational institutions, with around 250 incidents recorded in schools and higher education establishments. In public spaces such as the Central Business District, entertainment venues, and shopping areas, approximately 1,950 people were detained through ramped-up patrols.

Stricter Measures

As of March 2024, Singapore has implemented harsher penalties for those involved in the vaping trade. Even first-time offenders found purchasing, utilizing, or in possession of vaping products within educational settings are subject to fines up to $2,000.

Border Security

The period also saw heightened border security measures, with 40 vape-related infringements detected. Among these, 10 individuals were apprehended for attempting to smuggle vaping products into the country, while an additional 30 were caught with vape devices in their possession.
