Toronto experienced record rainfall from three massive storms, leading to widespread flooding, power outages, and stranded drivers on the city’s major motorway.

Drake’s Home Impacted

Pop star Drake shared a video on Instagram showing part of his Toronto home, “The Embassy,” submerged in water. The video depicted sludgy brown water filling a room, with Drake humorously commenting, “Better be espresso martini.”

Widespread Power Outages

The storm left more than 167,000 customers without power, as reported by Toronto Hydro. The city’s fire service received numerous calls from people trapped in lifts after large areas of the city center lost power during working hours.

Disrupted Travel and Rescue Efforts

Several flights at Billy Bishop Airport on the Toronto Islands in Lake Ontario were delayed or canceled. The Don Valley Parkway, a major motorway running alongside the Don River, was blocked in both directions due to flooding. Authorities rescued at least 14 people, including one individual who had to be rescued from their car’s roof.

Meteorological Explanation

Meteorologists attributed Tuesday’s record rainfall to three consecutive storms that hit the city, resulting in the unprecedented weather event and its ensuing chaos.
