Israeli Air Strike on Central Beirut Kills Five and Injures Eight
At least five people have been killed and eight others wounded following an Israeli air strike on a multi-storey building in central Beirut, Lebanese officials have confirmed. The building in the Bachoura district housed a Hezbollah-affiliated health center, which was targeted by Israel’s military in what it described as a “precision” strike.
First Israeli Strike Near Beirut’s City Center
This marks the first Israeli air strike near the heart of Beirut, only meters away from Lebanon’s parliament. In addition to the Bachoura attack, five other strikes were carried out overnight on targets in the southern suburb of Dahieh, a Hezbollah stronghold.
Escalating Conflict Follows IDF Casualties in Southern Lebanon
The air strikes come after the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced that eight of its soldiers had been killed in combat in southern Lebanon, marking the IDF’s first casualties since launching ground operations against Hezbollah. In response, Hezbollah claimed to have destroyed Israeli tanks and stated that it has sufficient manpower and resources to repel Israeli forces.
