A 46-year-old Chinese worker succumbed to serious head injuries after being struck by a falling steel bar at a construction site in Tuas. The accident occurred in the early hours of October 18 at the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant worksite. This marks the second reported workplace fatality in Singapore within a week.
Steel Bar Dislodged and Fell from Height
The incident happened when a heavy steel bar, commonly used to reinforce concrete, became dislodged and fell from a height, striking the worker. He was immediately rushed to the intensive care unit at the National University Hospital but tragically passed away around 10:20am the same day.
Arrest for Negligence
A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of negligence causing death, according to the police. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) identified the worker’s employer as DKS Builders, while the occupier of the worksite is Sinohydro Corp.
