Starting January 3, 2024, a significant financial relief measure will be rolled out for Singaporean households. In a bid to help citizens cope with daily expenses, the government will be issuing $500 worth of Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers to each of the 1.27 million Singaporean households.

Details of the CDC Voucher Scheme

  • Increased Amount: This new disbursement is an increase from the $300 worth of vouchers provided in 2023.
  • Usage: The vouchers are divided into two segments – $250 can be used at participating heartland merchants and hawkers, and the other $250 at participating supermarkets.
  • Digital Claim Process: Singaporeans can claim the vouchers digitally starting January 3, 2024, at the official government website.

Additional Financial Support Measures

Alongside the CDC vouchers, the government is implementing other schemes as part of a $1.1 billion support package to assist Singaporeans with the rising cost of living. This includes:

  • Service and Conservancy Charges Rebate: An additional one-off 0.5-month rebate for about 950,000 Singaporean HDB households.
  • U-Save Rebates: An extra $20 per quarter from January 2024 to December 2025 for HDB households, helping to offset the impact of carbon tax and water price increases.

Conclusion

The CDC voucher scheme, along with other financial support measures, reflects the government’s commitment to alleviating the cost-of-living pressures faced by Singaporeans. These initiatives are expected to provide significant relief to households across the country, especially amid global economic challenges.
