The Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) in Singapore is poised for a significant expansion, with Stage 4 slated to open in the first half of 2024. This eagerly anticipated development was confirmed by Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat, marking a major milestone in enhancing Singapore’s public transportation network.

TEL Stage 4: Bridging Communities

Stage 4 of the TEL, known as TEL4, includes seven new stations stretching from Tanjong Rhu to Bayshore. These stations are:

  1. Tanjong Rhu
  2. Katong Park
  3. Tanjong Katong
  4. Marine Parade
  5. Marine Terrace
  6. Siglap
  7. Bayshore

The completion of these stations, which were substantially completed by December 2023, is expected to significantly improve connectivity for residents in the eastern part of Singapore.

Enhancing Connectivity

The TEL currently runs between Woodlands North and Gardens by the Bay stations. The new TEL4 stations are set to connect these areas directly to the city center and beyond, offering residents quicker and more convenient access to various parts of the island.

Founders’ Memorial Station

The Founders’ Memorial station, located between Gardens by the Bay and the new Tanjong Rhu station, will open in tandem with nearby developments. Until then, TEL trains will likely bypass this station when traveling between Gardens by the Bay and Tanjong Rhu stations.

Additional Developments

Besides TEL4, the North East Line extension (NELe) is also expected to open in 2024. This extension will connect Punggol MRT station to the new Punggol Coast MRT station, further enhancing the public transport network in Singapore.

Conclusion

The opening of TEL Stage 4 in the first half of 2024 is a development eagerly awaited by many Singaporeans. It represents a significant step in the continuous effort to improve and expand the public transportation system in Singapore, making daily commutes faster and more convenient for residents.
