Singapore’s legal fraternity recently mourned the loss of a distinguished member, former Court of Appeal judge Thean Lip Ping, affectionately known in the legal profession as LP Thean. Passing away on January 14 at the age of 90, Mr. Thean’s career spanned decades and left a lasting impact on Singapore’s judicial landscape.
LP Thean was a prominent figure in the legal field, known for his extensive legal and judicial experience. Mr. Thean’s career began in legal practice in Kuala Lumpur and later in Singapore, before he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Singapore. He served in this position from 1984 to 1993, and subsequently as a Judge of Appeal in the Court of Appeal until his retirement in February 2002. His contributions to the legal community have been significant, and he was highly respected for his judicial temperament and dedication to legal scholarship.
